And for today's guest, Jason welcomes Eric Basmajian, economic analyst and founder of EPB Macro Research. Jason and Eric discuss the rapid decline in real personal income and standard of living, how the rate shock will filter through to the housing market and much more. Eric also talks about the single most important variable to understand where the next 10 years of the real estate market are going and the four corners of an economy: income, consumption, employment and production.

How far do our dollars actually go and how do we measure the standard of living in real terms? Eric looks for inflection points in long term economic cycles, what he calls secular economic trends, and cyclical trends to better position people for what's on the other side. We now have a rate shock being pushed onto the private sector which will cause a lot of problems as it filters through to the housing sector. So if you have no new home sales, or no new construction, and you have no existing home sales, how is that going to impact employment in the construction sector? How is that going to impact hours worked or hourly earnings in the construction sector? And as higher costs are being pushed onto the private sector, whether it's construction, food or gas prices, we're seeing a rapid decline in real personal income.

Karl Denninger is a technology expert and businessman, finance blogger, political activist and is sometimes referred to as a founding member of the Tea Party movement. Denninger was also the founder and CEO of MCSNet in Chicago.

Denninger is a founding contributor to the libertarian-oriented finance blog The Market Ticker, found at http://market-ticker.org. He uses his blog to levy harsh criticism of the criminal element who are wrecking the global financial system. In the aftermath of the March 2008 collapse of Bear Stearns, he founded the website Fed Up USA. He came to national attention for the criticisms of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 which he posted on Fed Up USA in September that year. Of special concern to Denninger was the over-the-counter trading of credit default swaps, as well as the high leverage of financial institutions; his objections to the bailout plan stemmed from the fact that it did not address either of these issues. He has also spoken out against high-frequency trading, particularly in the aftermath of the 2010 Flash Crash.

As a publicly outspoken and early member of the Tea Party movement, Denninger is sometimes referred to as a founder. On January the day of President Obama's first inauguration, he published a blog post calling on readers to mail tea bags to the White House and Congress on February 1st, echoing a suggestion by a commenter on one of his earlier blog posts. However, Denninger later expressed concern with the Tea Party movement, specifically that establishment Republicans had hijacked it and perverted its original goals.

Furthermore, Jason Hartman explores the latest housing market data with returning guest Dr. Lawrence Yun, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of Research at the National Association of Realtors®. The Federal Reserve has raised the interest rate only one time this year, yet we see how fast the mortgage rates are rising. However, if one looks at the past history, you can see that at times when the Fed aggressively raised interest rates, the mortgage rate barely budged. So is it possible that most of the mortgage rate increases this year may have already occurred? Will any further jacking up of the interest rate by the Fed necessarily have any meaningful impact on mortgage rates? According to Dr. Yun, the wildcard here is inflation and whether or not it continues to rise due to unforeseen events currently happening around the world.

Lawrence Yun is Chief Economist and oversees the Research group at the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. He supervises and is responsible for a wide range of research activity for the association including NAR’s Existing Home Sales statistics, Affordability Index, and Home Buyers and Sellers Profile Report. He regularly provides commentary on real estate market trends for its 1.4 million REALTORS®. Dr. Yun received his undergraduate degree from Purdue University and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park.

The Eurodollar was developed on its own without government or individual private effort outside of every country's regulatory regime.

Today's Flash Back Friday is from episode 406 which was first published last August 29, 2014.

Tom Essaye is the Editor of The Sevens (7:00) Report. He joins the show to discuss macroeconomic topics including China, Russia, and junk bonds. 

Essaye is a professional trader with more than 10 years experience trading foreign and domestic equities, commodities, currencies and bonds.  

He began his career as a trader on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for Merrill Lynch’s Institutional Equity Trading division, where he regularly traded multi-million dollar orders from clients that were some of the largest mutual and hedge funds in the world.  

In early 2005, Tom Essaye recognized, through his own fundamental analysis and research, a unique investment opportunity developing in the natural resource sector and commodities markets. He left the floor of the NYSE to join an associate starting a fledgling global macro hedge fund focused on investing in commodities and natural resource equities. Mr. Essaye was responsible for all trading in the fund and for conducting fundamental research in the commodities and natural resource markets.  

The fund made investments in precious metals, agricultural commodities, energy, and natural resource related equities – placing initial long positions in gold below $500/oz, silver below $7.00/oz, corn below $2.00/bushel and buying shares in then little followed equities such as Silver Wheaton, Newmont Mining, Cameco and EOG Resources. The fund also invested in Canadian and Australian mining and energy companies, and at one point foreign equities comprised nearly half of the fund’s portfolio.  

In mid-2007, while managing the energy sector portion of the fund, Mr. Essaye was one of the first analysts to realize the potential of shale natural gas, and invested heavily in shale gas producers and energy service companies that specialized in shale drilling.  

While interacting with both institutional and retail investors during his time at the fund, Mr. Essaye first began to recognize the large discrepancy between the quality of information available to professional traders versus the that available to non-professional traders. The 7:00’s Report is the result of his desire to show the investing public how professional traders analyze and interpret the markets each day, and to demonstrate how, by trading a real money portfolio, that analysis translates to trade ideas and, ultimately, profitable investments.

In 1991, the Soviet Union blew apart at the seams when Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev resigned and handed over the nuclear missile launching codes to Boris Yeltsin, president of Russia, the largest republic. No one knew what would happen next. It was an exciting and scary time to for an American to visit, but that is just what Phaedra Fisher decided to do a few years later, in 1994.

Jason Hartman welcomes Ms. Fisher, author of Vodka Diplomacy, to the microphone of The Creating Wealth Show to discuss her time spent in the aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union.
